To enable high-power USB support, an easy software update is required, including a restart following the installation.
Since Thunderbolt 3 delivers a bi-directional bandwidth up to 40 Gb/s, this dock can be the foundation of your custom display setup.
As an owner of a Mac Book pro that only has USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports, it quickly became apparent that I needed a dock solution for the de So. Bought the Belkin Thunderbolt 3 Dock from Apple Store and returned it after 2 days - it transmitted a noise through all the audio outputs, even connected to a UAD Thunderbolt 2 interface.
This unit is silent, powers my 15 MBP with touch bar, and no issues connecting to a LG 4K Display, using a mini-display port to display port cable. All ports seem to work, even though I have not tried the FW800 and Ethernet ports.
No room for T3 growth unless I can daisy chain the displayport monitors someday. But sometimes that doesn't work, and when it doesn't you need to shut everything down, plug it together, and then boot it back up, sometimes two or three times.
Also, I'd rather have a T3 port on the front or side to connect to the Mac, rather than the rear, but that doesn't affect the functionality of the current model. This is made more challenging by the fact that the dock DOES NOT HAVE A POWER SWITCH.
It's taken a while to finalize the product design, testing, and manufacturing, but OWC's Thunderbolt 3 Dock is now just about ready to ship and we've had a chance to spend some time with a production-ready unit.
This dock contains two bi-directional 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports, each of which utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector and also supports 10 Gb/s USB 3.1 and dual-bandwidth Display Port 1.2, allowing you to connect up to two 4K/60 Hz displays simultaneously, or one 5K Thunderbolt 3 display.
Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.
Took a lot longer to receive than expected but definitely worth the wait! Only issue I have is putting the power LED on the bottom of the dock instead if the front or top? I've been waiting for the 13 port T3 dock for a year, and it fits my needs with one exception: even though I followed instructions and installed the DP port driver, my Dell external monitor flickers unacceptably.
Had an issue connecting and didnt realize my power supply had come unplugged. I spoke to customer support and will get back to them in a few days, when I have more time, to try to resolve this.
